    Great video and very well presented. I even think this is the best one out there, for starting a mini pond without filter and fish. I am going to make a 75L pond that sits between the patio and veggie garden. I'm going to use a couple of edible plants as well like watercress and -mint. If all goes well maybe I'll even try to add Japanese rice fish next spring. Anyways, thanks a bunch!

    My problem is finding a barrel that is leak proof! I have tried a pond liner inside, but that seems to leak after a few weeks. I have even painted it with leak-proff spray paint, but still got the problem of finding another pair of hands to hold the liner folded, tightly to the side on a half barrel while I insert the staples from the gun! How about another video with all the problems you come across in real life, such as barrels that leak, where to get a helper to help hold the liner, how to measure a 2sq. metre square to mark out the size to fit the barrel and more?

    That spot looked so idyllic I'm surprised it didn't have a pond already! I'm turning a Belfast sink into a mini pond, and was wondering if there's a better period for it to receive the most sun? I'm south facing and was going to put it against one wall or the other to get more sun early or late

    Ending up being a cesspit not a pond. Smell was horrible, plants either died or were dieing. Changed water frequently but to no avail. Maybe I should have lined. Mosquitoes or something similar appreciated the environment I created, hundreds of the blighters.

    Just to mention, whisky barrells give off a stench for 6 months minimum. This is their former life coming out the woodwork. It ruins the ater. Barrells are charred too and that black ash comes away and kills your plants and turns the gravel black permantely. Mentioning this as few others do and it helps people make an informed choice before they spend money on pond stuff that will die within 3 weeks and satin everything black.

    Please add guppies (fish) They will create small surface agitation by looking for food on surface of the water and the birds get attract to moving water than standing because moving water surface gives them a reflection of the sunlight directly to the eyes so they will find easily 😀 I experienced that

    I did something similar last year, but had one or two issues, the main one being blanket weed. I have a powder solution to get rid of it, but just keeps coming back, swamping all the other plants and just looks a mess. I've even removed everything and started again, but same issue. Other problems - winds knocking high plants over (solved with bamboo canes holding pots in place), the metal rings outside have just corroded off, no idea how long it'll last), something eating the lily leaves, and pigeons eating any flower heads. These ponds are definitely not plug and play, they need a lot of maintenance unless I'm doing something wrong..?

    • @wwtorguk
      @wwtorguk 27 дней назад

      Hi there, it sounds like you are doing everything right, any garden pond will need some maintenance. To tackle the blanket weed, try moving the pond to a shadier spot than it is currently in, and ensure no other excess nutrients are being left in, such as dead/rotting plant matter.

    Water vapor H2O has a CO2e of 18. This video contains the UN Climate Change disclaimer. Global warming was officially stated at 1.1°C in 1991 and 1.06°C in 2022. There is no mechanism that would allow greenhouse gas behavior to cause global warming. The back of the United Nation's IPCC science report states it took its greenhouse gas samples at 20,000 meters altitude where it is common high school level knowledge there is no greenhouse radiant energy. This is typical practice for deceptive marketing to state legal data transparency protecting the perpetrators from fraud prosecution. Earth's greenhouse effect is frequently used as a primary example to high school students of a system always in saturation from the strong greenhouse gas water vapor absorbing all the greenhouse radiant energy from the earth with greenhouse gases within 20 meters of the surface that is all around us everyday and can't have its overall effect changed. There is no further greenhouse radiant energy to interact with greenhouse gases. At 1% average tropospheric water vapor over 99% of earth’s greenhouse effect is from water vapor. Water vapor would hold earth's greenhouse effect in saturation if it were the only greenhouse gas in the atmosphere. Arctic warming is taking place with the proving mechanism being warm Atlantic Ocean waters migrating deeper and more frequently into the Arctic Ocean warming it and the region. That warmer water is causing a few weeks less of reflective snow and ice coverage resulting in more solar heat gain to the Arctic region surface. Atmospheric CO2 levels of 1200 ppm about three times what they are today would greatly invigorate C3 plants the majority of plant life on earth greatly greening the planet. 0.4% of the atmosphere is CO2 and on average 1% is H20 water vapor. (1% H20)/(0.4% CO2) = 25. Water vapor is 25 times more present in the atmosphere on average than CO2. Water vapor has an CO2e of 18, 18 X 25 = 450 CO2e total for water vapor to 1 CO2e for CO2. I have a small pond, maybe 20 gallons as part of my NWF backyard wildlife habitat certification in MI and a much larger one on a city patio in TN. Both are self-sufficient ecosystems. The one in MI gets fouled more because of critters stopping by. Both locations 'mosquito minnows' (gambusa minnows) are free from the county health department vector control (similar/different name based on location). Should the fish not survive a freeze I use mosquito dunks, 1/4 dunk for the larger pond until I can restock the fish. My Water Lilly is in a round bin from Dollar Tree and clay kitty litter. Duck weed is a good surface plant. See if you can attract dragon flies. I think it would do better in that long basket as it has nearly crossed the round container. Most places that do not allow rainwater collection is due to people allowing it to be sitting water or drinking. I'd call and ask for an exception to save to build a pond. I've done similar for a pond and in using my washer water for lawn care. I included my intentions and explanation, equipment, laundry cleaners in my request. The reason such things are not allowed is because humans were not responsible. If algae is a problem, the slimy type, use small barley bales off Amazon. In the large pond one lasts 6 months. My next goal is to get more native plants.

      Michigan is mosquito heaven. You'd need a goldfish to keep them under control. Then an indoor tank for wintering over the goldfish or a way to keep the tank from freezing solid. The goldfish will go into hibernation and thrive as long as you don't let him turn into fishcicle.
